Insurance - at what age? - DMZ - 09 Feb 2010 Just arguing hypothetically here over which car to take to shows: the solution would be to each take a different one, of course! But there's the rub. What is the consensus on DeLorean insurance for the earlyish twenties? Can it be done, has it been done (at sensible cost) and from who? Because, of course, one of us here is... Re: Insurance - at what age? - Guinney1971 - 09 Feb 2010 Hi Demelza, have a word with Scott Miller, he's managed to get his De insured ok and takes it to shows and stuff. Will you be bringing your car to Chirk in June? I insured mine at 21 as a named driver on My dads policy so there are those who will insure you, probably best to go down the more specialist insurers route. James RG Re: Insurance - at what age? - Thunderchild - 10 Feb 2010 I insured mine in my own name at 22 with Adrian Flux. Re: Insurance - at what age? - MikeH - 10 Feb 2010 i got my renewal quote from flux, damn its gone up a fair whack, gotta look around again Re: Insurance - at what age? - DMZ - 11 Feb 2010 Interesting. 'Dad, what do you mean I have to wait til I'm 50??!!' I have always noted there are quite a few enthusiasts in this age band. Bit worried about the cost, ball park figures..? 23yrs. might happen one day.... Re: Insurance - at what age? - JamesRGUK - 11 Feb 2010 DMZ Wrote:Interesting. 'Dad, what do you mean I have to wait til I'm 50??!!' Some rought ball park figures from my own experience, despite being quoted £5000 by the AA at 21y/old I persued more specialist insurers and managed to get the following: @ 21 Years Old - I think I paid £390 as a named driver 3,000miles p/year on my dad's policy. @ 23 Years Old - I paid around £290 fully comp 3,000miles p/year on my own policy. @ 29 Years Old - I pay about £200-£250ish fuly comp unlimited miles. Obviously points on your lisence, where the vehicle is kept, access to other vehicles etc... will all have an impact on the price, but hopefully that will give you an idea. Don't be put off by pie-in-the-sky quotes from some of the big insurers, you need to go down the classic policy route with the more specialist insureres to get the best deal. James Re: Insurance - at what age? - dmcscott2002 - 11 Feb 2010 I'm 21 and pay £400 as a named driver with Hagerty's. They are by far the best I came across. Most others wouldn't touch it with a barge pole! Re: Insurance - at what age? - DMZ - 11 Feb 2010 Thanks, that is helpful, we'll look into it. 8) Re: Insurance - at what age? - DMZ - 17 May 2010 Can anyone recommend any insurers? Policy has to with an agreed value. would be interested to know. current insurer won't add on to policy until 25. Re: Insurance - at what age? - dmcscott2002 - 18 May 2010 Hagertys. http://www.hagertyinsurance.co.uk/ I'm 21 and these are the only people I found that would give me a resonable deal. Best to say you heard about them through the DOC. Re: Insurance - at what age? - DMZ - 18 May 2010 It says they don't insure drivers under 30 on the site (?????) Re: Insurance - at what age? - dmcscott2002 - 18 May 2010 ring them. I'm 21. Pretty sure of that. :p Re: Insurance - at what age? - DMZ - 19 May 2010 Thanks for the info. Did it affect the agreed value of the car on the policy? Re: Insurance - at what age? - dmcscott2002 - 19 May 2010 Did'nt affect the agreed value of the car as far as I know. It's worth asking about various ways of bringing the cost down though, reduced miles ect. |
