DeLorean Needed for TV restoration - Wheeler Dealer - 28 Jan 2010 Hi all, I'm writing from a TV company that produces a TV program called Wheeler Dealers for Discovery. The premise of the show is two presenters, a car dealer and a mechanic buy classic cars, restore them and then sell them on for a profit. For this series we are planning to feature a DeLorean. Therefore I am putting a request out to anybody who has a DeLorean they are looking to part with or knows someone who is. As we restore the cars we're looking for DeLoreans that require a little TLC that we can fix to return them to their full glory. The seller of the car will get to feature in the program and will receive a DVD of the show once it is completed. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers. Re: DeLorean Needed for TV restoration - Guinney1971 - 28 Jan 2010 I remember Mike Brewer saying at the NEC the other year they wanted a DeLorean for Wheeler Dealers. Chris Williams or Chris Parnham will probably know of any 'fixer uppers' in the club for sale. Re: DeLorean Needed for TV restoration - dmcscott2002 - 29 Jan 2010 This would be an interesting watch. I'm sure we have a few owners with a couple of potential restoration projects sitting about haven't we? Re: DeLorean Needed for TV restoration - phil349 - 29 Jan 2010 I was watching this program one night last week, it was an episode where they bought an old capri for a few hundred, fitted a few off the shelf easy to get parts and actually made nothing on it when it came to sell. It was quite good to watch though for practical tips and advice on bodywork, etc. I just hope they know that its nothing like the same situation with DeLoreans, there rare and not cheap to start with  even for one which needs work, then you'll need to get the parts to fix it up. It certainly would be interesting to watch though. Re: DeLorean Needed for TV restoration - JamesRGUK - 30 Jan 2010 Nearly all ofthe wheeler dealers episodes are on you-tube, the mechanic Ed China is a proper mechanic, great to watch and comes up with some great tips. I did wonder if they'd do a DeLorean but I didn't think it would be as easy a restoration, you can't respray a DeLorean, it's a little more specialist. Having said that I would love to see a WD episode with e DeLorean, they always seem very positive about the cars they restore no matter what model or make. James Re: DeLorean Needed for TV restoration - A Van - 02 Feb 2010 I am not sure if there is anyone who has a car for sale in the condition you require, I havent heard of anything, dont think any others have either. Maybe you would be better looking to the US, and importing one then carrying out the mods and get it mot'd etc. Re: DeLorean Needed for TV restoration - jerzybondov - 02 Feb 2010 Hmm. I'd agree with Al. I imagine they look to recover some of the budget for the programme from the profits from the restoration - so it's not like they'd restore someone's car for them anyhow, meaning they'd need to import their own. Could make an interesting section for the show potentially. Having said that, if as we worked out recently there are 150 DeLoreans in the UK, you'd imagine there's a few knackered ones kicking around - although they're probably not owned by active members of the club... Re: DeLorean Needed for TV restoration - stunned_monkey - 02 Feb 2010 They looked at one of my "in progress" cars but decided it was too much work and too expensive once all the aspects of the job were added up. I suspect that the "right" car for this program would be too expensive in the first place, even bought in from the US. Re: DeLorean Needed for TV restoration - Guinney1971 - 03 Feb 2010 I think your right Martin, even 'fixer uppers' are in the £10k area whether you buy them here or import one from the US - I think the dearest car I've seen on WD lately was that Porsche 944 Turbo, and I think that was only around £6000 when they sold it - and it had been done up as a track car with orange wheels. Vin 4772 if I recall correctly. Re: DeLorean Needed for TV restoration - stunned_monkey - 22 Feb 2010 Yes, that's the car. Currently in many many bits! Re: DeLorean Needed for TV restoration - MikeWard - 22 Feb 2010 Be interesting to see how it's coming along. Keep me posted because i'm still on the lookout for a D, currently just letting the funds build up for now. Re: DeLorean Needed for TV restoration - stunned_monkey - 22 Feb 2010 Will do - in common with all DeLoreans that're "resurrected", it looks a whole hell of a lot worse now before it ends up better! I'll second that Martin, remember how bad Flopsy looked a few years ago when work first started! lol  |
