This is autoexpress's write-up of, what looks to be, the new flagship sports car from Mercedes. Am I right in saying Claire works for Benz'? Maybe she knows more?! :?:

the delorean is probably more reliable from what ive heard about mercs.

Can't comment myself, never been into Merc's purely cos of the standard of their drivers! Not to say Claire is a bad driver :oops: Just the general population of owners. But as a car, or projection of what it could look like, looks amazing. Gullwing cars have way more presence on any road... id prefer a D' over a Merc though haha!

i`ve got two merc`s and they seem to be reliable don`t like where the battery is kept tho in my viano, it`s under the front passenger seat which you have to unbolt the seat and lift the seat out, bugger when you need to jump start it ,and my other merc aventgarde three litre turbo hasn,t let me down and i`ve had it now 3 years.
but yeah i like the merc in the picture with the gull wing`s i can see my self with me shades on poseing through town,i bet that will be a tad expensive
if you look on my little pic to the left you can just see my merc in the garage :wink:

Yes, I do work for Mercedes - Mertrux - who are the largest franchised Mercedes Truck and Van dealer group in the East Midlands (plug over).
We used to have the car franchise, but when block exemption came along in 2003, Mercedes told all their car dealers that they would have to re-apply for their franchises. My bosses looked at the figures, and decided that because there is no money in new cars, it was not worth investing millions in a fancy glass palace, so we now specialise in late low milage Mercs, and thats the side I work on as an administrator now.
I dont drive a Merc - although I do borrow one if I need to go out and my bosses SLK350 was a total blast
- every time my boss asks when I'm gonna get rid of the Cavalier and buy a Merc, I remind him that I run a car that cost £350, not one that depreciates by that every month :lol:There was survey of 'the public' in the Guardian a few weeks back, where apparantly the worst drivers were perceived to be (in reverse order)
3. Women in 4x4's doing the school run
2. White Van Man
1. BMW drivers
(And before anyone who is in the above categories start jumping up and down, this was a report in the paper and not necessarily my opinion :roll: )
That new gullwing Merc looks good though, but not sure it will make it into production, which is a shame cos so many concept cars look the nuts, but when the real thing actually comes out it looks nothing like it. The only cars I can think of recently, where they have stayed very close to the concept, were the Renault Avantime and the new Honda Civic.

Claire, thats an interesting finding from those bad drivers results, Im only going on what ive experience driving on numerous motorways and the fact a Merc was the basis of me having my car off the road for about a month whilst it was fixed as I had to brake suddenly when a Merc in front decided he wanted to turn right without indicating, girl behind went into the back of me haha, my poor poor Corsa

hahaha, yeah, I think my boss has finally given up asking me when I'm gonna buy (in his opinion) "a decent car".
I think we all have experiences of various numpty's on the roads, the ones that get me are the idiots who sit in the middle lane of the motorway when the inside lane is clear. It effectively turns a 3-4 lane motorway into a dual carriageway and bunches everyone up in the outside lane which just slows everyone down even more. Grrrrr...
Anyway, I did my good deed for the day on Friday morning as I stopped to help a guy who had driven his BMW Z4 into ditch (I saw it happen right in front of me) when he had swerved in the country roads just outside Derby.
Luckilly he was ok, but the car didnt look too good.

God Claire that sounds terrible, good sport for stopping, im sure not many people would! Glad he was ok! I take it you or he called RAC or somebody to get him out of the ditch and the car towed away? But yes, definately an amazing good deed for friday!

hahaha, yeah that was a fun night 'DeLorean Dancing' up the M1 - wasnt there about 7 of us in convoy (enroute to Donington?)
I just got so fed up of that twat sitting in the outside lane at 60mph (with the rest of the convoy disappearing up ahead, that I dropped Flopsy down a cog and nipped up the inside, and I seem to recall you wernt far behind me!! :wink:

It was quite weird really, at the time it was almost like slow motion.
I pulled my car off the road and went over to make sure the driver of the BMW was ok, which he was, just shaken up. I phoned the Police (cos although its a country road, its still quite a busy one into Derby and also a bus route) and they arranged for a local recovery firm to come out and pull the car out of the ditch.
Mind you, the guy didnt even know he had a warning triangle in his boot. People were driving really quickly towards the scene, then having to brake, so I made sure we put the warning triangle up to let other drivers know there was a hazard ahead.
I dont think I did anything particularly special, and would like to think that most people out there would have done the same thing in the circumstances.

well, it seems my faith in human nature was proved wrong last night, as I was involved in an accident, and no bugger stopped to see if me or the person that ran into the back of me was ok.
Guinney is ok, and just needs a new rear bumper (see pic), but the Polo that hit us (twice!) is a write off. However, I'm in heaps of pain, very stiff and have a numb right arm and bruised collarbone. I also had the 'joys' of being examined at Ripley hospital, then being transferred in a head brace by ambulance to Derby Royal Infirmary, where I had to lie on a back board, with my head and neck in a brace before being discharged at midnight. There's a fun way to spend a Tuesday night - not. Still, at least me and the other driver are ok - at the end of the day cars can be replaced, people cant.
Anyway, when I'm up to driving again, I'll take a ride up to Alvox near Alfreton (huge Vauxhall scrappy) and see if they've got a rear bumper for me - typically, the one on the car I'm scrapping is a different colour! :roll:
