Number plate surrounds (NOT BEZELS) - TristanC - 26 May 2008

Hi all,

I've recently bought a set of plates for my everyday car as I've just put a private registration back on it.

I bought them from here: http://www.wickedcustomplates.co.uk

And while I was dealing with them, Greg, the proprietor asked if we'd like a custom surround produced for the DOC and sent me a sample of what he could do for us.

I've attached it as a link here:

Your reg mark goes inside the border. Think of the DMC logo as being the GB flag etc to get an idea.

I'm not affiliated with these chaps, but he kindly offered this to me so I thought it may be of interest to you all in the hope of promoting the club further.

Prices for these plates are £6.50 + P&P each. Just send them the registration mark you want and they'll print it on a UK legal plate.

As far as I'm aware if you have the garage's name and address at the bottom these types of plates are legal. - If I'm wrong, please chip in and let us know.

thanks

Tris

That looks great, and sounds like good value

Just to confirm, these are illegal and so you can be issued with a £30 fine.

You will only tend to get one if they are pulling you for something else though.

However, they aren't completely obvious - like running no front plate and a cali one on the back hey Dan ;-)

Thanks for the info.

Jonathan is right, these plates are illegal for road use.

You are only allowed a Euro/GB Logo on the edge, anything else, and has
been rightly pointed out, you will be liable for a £30 fine, and your car may
also fail its MOT test.

They do look good though Smile

I got pulled over in the Delorean the other week and the policeman just said to swap it back when I got home, made a flux capacitor joke then left me alone luckily.

I think this is really cool to have on your number plate: http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1366/121 ... 85.jpg?v=0[/url]

(Look at the silver bit at the bottom!)

My front one is perfectly legal size/font, and the ministry can see it any time they want, they just have to ask me to get out from behind the passenger seat :-)

I have a union jack on my rear plate, didn't even ask for it, that's how it came, it went through the MOT with no queery.

I'm supprised that it's illegal!

Hi,

Perhaps I'm being blind but I can't find anything that says you can't have a logo off to the left in place of the Euro thingy.

I thought the only important thing was the spacing of the letters and the type face!

Not much is legal these days, so I just do what I want and worry about the law if I'm caught

- Bandit - 30 May 2008

Most of the time the law ain't bothered if the letters are a decent size. I've bin' nicked 7 times for it on motorbikes (too small) but 'till they make it a point offence, I just take the wrap & pay the £30.00.
Don't honestly think you get much grief on a D' though.

Hi James,

You really did miss the point here. You need to think like a civil servant that doesn't get out much!

Think of it as a guest list at a party and your a bouncer. If you ain't on the list you don't get in 8)

The DVLA rules on plates are the same, but jokes aside it would be impossible to list all things illegal as some smart arse would come up with something else not on the list. Big Grin
So if car badges aren't on the numberplate regulations list then by default they are illegal Sad

Same goes for font styles, and clear border spacing. The link I gave you shows ONLY whats allowed, not what isn't.

Hope you get it now.

Best regards
D
