Volvo turbo on 2316cc engines - Rich Hanlon - 07 Dec 2007 From what I read the Volvo's 2,316cc engine was commonly turbo-charged, whereas the 2,849 wasn't. Excuse the ignorance, is the 2,316 a shorter version of the same 2849cc PRV engine - and if so, has anyone had a crack at fitting Volvo turbo bits to the 2849? Or is it a different motor altogether? The mind's flying, I have these wierd ideas at this time of night.... - Dodgy Motor - 07 Dec 2007 I think you will find the 2.3 is a straight 4 engine so any mods would be huge to fit a V6. I did find this though http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=STNAif_yrWY - Guinney1971 - 07 Dec 2007 Best asking forum member 'The Joy of Six' - he's the Volvo officionado - stunned_monkey - 07 Dec 2007 Completely different 4cyl engine, Only Renault and Venturi ever had turbo PRVs. R25 Turbo 2.5 GTA Turbo 2.5 A610 3.0 Safrane BiTurbo 3.0 Venturi used and modified the same engines. They produced the only 2849 turbo which was a stroked R25 engine with custom pistons and engine management fitted to the Venturi 260 and variants. - TheJoyofSix - 08 Dec 2007 As mentioned above the 2316cc turbos in the 240/740/760/940 Turbos (and indeed 2127cc turbos in the 240's and 1986cc turbos in 940's) were all the 4cyl 'Redblock' family of engines initially using a Garrett (AI Research) T3 turbo and latterly a Mitsubishi TD03-13C. - David Gentleman - 08 Dec 2007 Good engine. Good power available. - David Gentleman - 08 Dec 2007 stunned_monkey Wrote:Completely different 4cyl engine, Only Renault and Venturi ever had turbo PRVs. The GTA Turbo came first in 2.8 turbo guise.. The 2.8 engine was actually designed by Alpine, and then continued in the Venturis. - stunned_monkey - 08 Dec 2007 David Gentleman Wrote:The GTA Turbo came first in 2.8 turbo guise.. Was it ever sold in a production car? - David Gentleman - 08 Dec 2007 stunned_monkey Wrote:David Gentleman Wrote:The GTA Turbo came first in 2.8 turbo guise.. I thought the '6' in '760' referred to the number of cylinders! It does explain the 760 I found at the scrappers which had the four-pot though - I thought someone had just stuck a 760 badge on the back of a 740. Ta! Never ceases to amaze me - the amount of knowledge out there is incredible. We ought to form a club or something!!! |
