Parts cross reference - Dan Howarth - 01 Nov 2006

Hi all. Good to see you all at the NEC on Sunday. Nice to see old faces And put some faces to names.
Anyway just had a thought. Don't say it, "not a very big one then" or "careful strap yourselves down we could be in for a bumpy ride" I've heard em all before. Anyhow, just had an idea about the forum. We have the sections set out like in the manual, well could we have another one for cross referenced parts. I have photo copied one that was in the Febuary 2002 edition of the DoC news and i keep it in the van with me just in case i go past a scrappy and need a bit for my car. It don't half save some time when your looking for say an interior light. It means i dont have to go looking through all the cars. I just go to a Renalt Fuago because thats what it says on my list. I have just put a second hand horn on Elly this afternoon and that came off a ford fiesta. £2 it cost me and i know i could get one from Grady's or from martin for about 8 quid but i'd have to wait for that to come in the post. And i like going to the scrap yard anyway, list in hand. So is there any chance we could have somewhere on the forum which everyone can add to when they find a part. Or could we do something in the mag, say once a year. Be easier if it was on the forum though. Anyway like i said just an idea. What do you all think.
Ps. Tom. Thanks for you hospitality on Monday night. Was good to talk deloreans for a few hours. Many Rgds.

I think thats a really good idea Dan.

I'm just waiting to find time to raid Looms' Scrapyard in Derby and get 2 pairs of Metro door locks as Flopsy's are pretty much shagged (cheers to Rich H for the tip there Big Grin )

And another good parts x-reference, rather then spend oodles of cash on a vendor/car parts shop's throttle cable, simply go to B&Q where they will sell you 4 metres of the correct stuff for £2.32 Big Grin

The DeLorean might be a 'mish mash' of parts, but how many other exotic looking classic cars can you get a set of brake pads for for less then a tenner?

on teh topic of ideas i thought about making a d site that would combine all the useful and non useful stuff, things like what you said, and also maybe in depth how to fix certain things guide, maybe all the products people make to make teh delorean better

basicly get all the stuff out there and try build 1 big database of info, not sure if its a good idea or not tho

I know this is something the club is working on for when the club website www.deloreans.co.uk is updated and expanded.

We had an excellent discussion about this at the NEC and I'm confident we should have some updates sorted before too long Big Grin

This goes back to one of the origional reasons why the Club was set upSmileseems like a few of us have been talking about this for quite a while now Smile, i know Rich is on the case with a list like this. Time to pool this info and make a definative list for club members that fits our car and works by our own experiences.

if we have experience of a known working part then should we email it to Rich so he can be the data source?

- Dan Howarth - 01 Nov 2006

Excellent guys. Lets just get thing rollin and keep on top of it. There you go Door locks off a metro and horns off a fiesta. Hows that for a start then.

- Guinney1971 - 02 Nov 2006

Maybe we could also offer a cross reference to other clubs where we know that we use the same part?

Phill and I were at the Porsche Club GB Intermarque back in July, and there was a guy there with an absolute minter of an Aston Martin Lagonda - which had exactly the same AC compressor as the DeLorean - the owner was well chuffed as he was worried where to get one from if his failed.

Also, afaik, the glove box lid/catch is the same as a VW Scirrocco - funnily enough I was following one to work in Flopsy yesterday morning Smile

If I can think of any other parts that have gone on Flopsy that were from other cars, I'll either post them on here or send them to Rich.

- Rich H - 04 Nov 2006

This mission is well and truly in progress Big Grin

I have collected a fair collection of cross references and part numbers from other cars and suitable alternatives.

I am also looking for useful contact details for specialists and suppliers.

Any info any club member can offer up, please email it to me.

The intention is to have an entire section of the club website devoted to cross ref parts and suppliers...

Look out for new tech goodies in forthcoming mags too

It's not. It's a Mk1 Golf, and very close to a Citroen BX, so if you want a colour-coded grey one, go look for one of them. The only difference is the button things are slightly diagonal. Citroen BX Estate boot light is also a cross-ref but uses a 501 capless bulb rather than a festoon

Can anyone guess what car I drove for a while?

I'll see if I can dig out my list from 2002 had quite a comprehensive one made up.
