VIN#6126 Chassis restoration - Rich Hanlon - 28 Feb 2020

I got them from DeLorean Go but you could make some by tapping M7 down some 1/2" brass hex bar. The studs were fairly long. I think the main advantage of brass is that you can always undo them. Obviously it's softer than steel so if it's engaged on more threads it spreads the load over more threads making the studs less liable to be damaged.

The other advantage I suppose of a longer nut fully covering the stud, is that the normally exposed surface of the stud outside of the nut, which is usually prone to corrosion, making it difficult to get the nut past them ( leading to damaged studs) - is now fully covered by the elongated nut, therefore less likely to corrode. So you don't have to turn the nuts past/ over a big blob of rust.

I have a mixture of studs but they're now all good. Two specials, made to fit some oversized holes, some of Eds which I had forgotten I had in stock, and a couple of DeL Go ones.

The surface corrosion has been fairly rapid since I had the epoxy stripped, certainly. The rough surface it leaves oxidises very rapidly. But all the soft stuff is now cut out, and it's going to be stripped off again before galvanising [emoji846]

Hard to believe it's the same frame as this from November!![attachment=755]

That surface rust is absolutally nothing to worry about......it would be if you left the cassis in a very damp place for a long time. But I don't think that will be happening! If you are having it galvanised the pre-cleaning process should sort it out.

Thanks Chris[emoji106]

Yeah, it'll be fine. It didn't help that I had to transport it on a wet day after it had been dipped. But yes that'll all be off before it has it's nice hot bath [emoji16]
