What has perplexed me since I was a kid was those rear deck props coming through the 3/4 glass on that car.

Nice article and nice to know how it all got started in the UK! Is this 'Andy Hobbs' still around?

Question : I know that 'BAK 2 IT' is VIN#15768, but do you have the VIN from the BTTF conversion in the 1990 article?

Fascinating story, thanks.

I’m assuming that the Daily Mirror prize car was in fact 15768 and it was the second car (VIN ??) that Andy Hobbs converted?

And the car on the first page is 15768 after restoration? Looks fantastic btw.

Was 15768 originally registered with the BAK 21T plate, and that’s how it came to you?

I read, in the DOC, that the converted car was essentially an engineless prop? Correct? And that it went to Keswick like that, presumably unregistered? Which would imply that the listing for “Stock 108” above is a little misleading?

Correct, but there is no history of it ever having any BTTF kit on. The plates were (as I understand it) swapped around for the photo shoot, I have the letters from the Daily Mirror and the winner disputing the fact they 'implied' the prize was a BTTF replica when it was infact a stock DeLorean.

That's correct, Thanks. Yes the DVLA records I got showed it as being registered with that number at first registration after importation.

I believe so, however as he also seems to have done a BTTF3 conversion who knows, whilst not an expert they do seem to be very crude conversions. there are better people out there who know the fate of the BTTF cars.
