After 8 Years, its time to sell my DeLorean - dmcrobin - 25 Sep 2011 After over 8 years, the time has come to sell my beloved DeLorean, due to changes in circumstances which mean it just doesn't get used enough. She is Chassis number 11431, The build sheet I have is dated 18th January 1982. Purchased by me in May 2003, she was then registered DCZ5284. She was registered the year before in GB and in 2000 in Northern Ireland, prior to that I was told by the seller she was in a Museum in Scotland for all of her life. The first MOT, before registration which is dated November 1999 states the mileage at 1,167 so I deem this to be correct. The current mileage I therefore believe to be 100% genuine at 20,833 Miles. Upon purchase, she was road worthy and MOT'd so I enjoyed her use until the MOT came round whereby she went to DeLorean Motors UK Ltd in Early 2004 where the remit was to do everything that was either perishable, had been upgraded for a more reliable part or was safety or reliability related, the work list included New Brake Calipers & Hoses, New Brake Master Cylinder, New Steering Column Bush, Refurbished Steering Rack, all 4 CV Boots, Coil, Water Pump, Thermostat, Recover Headlining Boards, Refurbish Wheels, Replace all Relays, New Injectors, New Clutch Slave Cylinder, New Shock Absorbers, New Clutch and a Stainless Steel Exhaust System. Through the years, the clutch, door struts, and brakes have been replaced and anything that didn't work was repaired or replaced. Since then she has had a service and full check over every year and this year had new Discs, pads and Handbrake Pads and cables. She is fitted with a remote system for doors, windows, luggage compartment and engine lid and also a JVC Tuner/CD/DVD Player. Condition wise she is excellent considering she'll be 30 years old in January, the Chassis had been Waxoyled prior to my purchase and I have had it reapplied on occasion and it has caused me no issues. There are a couple of small areas of repaired stainless on the OSF Wing and the bottom of one door and there is a very small pin dent on the bonnet, none of which detract from the cars overall look. The Space Saver Spare Wheel is missing, although the tools are present. The Air Conditioning works and is ice cold having been regassed this year, the only item that doesn't always work is the electric aerial which operates when it feels like it, but can be raised and lowered manually if required. I have all paperwork, MOT Certificates, Tax Discs and all invoices for work carried out during my ownership although there is very little before that as it wasn't registered. I have original Brochures which are included with the car, she was also featured in Classics Magazine in Feb 2005 of which there is a photocopy of in the file. If you'd like to arrange to view her or ask any questions, give me a call on 07779 273001. The Registration number 1982 D displayed in the photos is NOT INCLUDED in the sale, but is available under separate negotiation if the winning bidder is interested in purchasing it. I will be listing on ebay later today with this description, but happy for any DOCers to view/buy outside of ebay and i'll remove it. Pricewise i'm open to sensible offers, or its sell for what it makes on Ebay! Re: After 8 Years, its time to sell my DeLorean - dmcrobin - 25 Sep 2011 Re: After 8 Years, its time to sell my DeLorean - Guinney1971 - 25 Sep 2011 sorry to hear that Robin, but with your fleet of cars its understandable, plus I know how busy you are at work. Its also worth mentioning that it was YOUR car in the studio at the Top Gear filming when Patrick Kielty was on (and I told an audience member off for leaning on your car ) I hope you get top dollar for your car, its worth every penny and its a lovely example. Best wishes, and no doubt see you at the NEC in November Re: After 8 Years, its time to sell my DeLorean - Chris Williams - 25 Sep 2011 Good luck with the sale, good combination that grey interior & 5 speed! Would be worth emailing the details to editor@deloreans.co.uk if it does not get a sensible price as a lot of club members are not on the internet and rely on the mag for sales info Chris Re: After 8 Years, its time to sell my DeLorean - Dan Willis - 26 Sep 2011 Do you have an idea of what you want for it? DeLorean prices are so variable, I can't help think it'd be insulting to offer anything these days (as we all want something for nothing!). Looks like a real beauty though. Good luck with the sale. (Yes, I am looking - but I'm still fighting to be allowed one this side of Christmas!) Re: After 8 Years, its time to sell my DeLorean - Guinney1971 - 26 Sep 2011 Dan, wouldnt it be ironic if you did get it, and it got its DCZ5284 number back, especially considering what one of your former DMC vins was? lol Re: After 8 Years, its time to sell my DeLorean - Dan Willis - 26 Sep 2011 I hadn't considered that! I'm told (by my wife) that "June" next year is about when I can have one. Re: After 8 Years, its time to sell my DeLorean - Guinney1971 - 26 Sep 2011 Dan Willis Wrote:I hadn't considered that! "about" .... doesn't sound very positive! lol Its not like buying a 2-a-penny Ford Focus here matey, your ideal DMC could be out there right now and you wouldnt want to miss out would you? Re: After 8 Years, its time to sell my DeLorean - Dan Willis - 27 Sep 2011 No, "about" doesn't, does it? It's a guess based on paying off some debt and saving a bit - so, yeah - it could be a year longer than that for all I know. But you are right. If "my" car is out there, I'll try to buy it when it appears. Re: After 8 Years, its time to sell my DeLorean - dmcrobin - 30 Sep 2011 Hi Dan/Clare They seem to be all over the place price wise. I think its a lovely car although I have owned it to use and not look at so it isn't perfect, a few marks here and there but nothing serious and its always had any mechanical work it needed done. I'd like to think it'll make around 18k but it'll sell for what someone bids for it as i've decided its going ! No ones been to see it though which I find a bit odd ! Anyway, we'll see what happens Regards Robin Re: After 8 Years, its time to sell my DeLorean - Dan Willis - 30 Sep 2011 It's a specialist vehicle. I know a few people trying move similar cars (well, not similar, just rare) and it's tough out there. Mind you, DeLoreans are a special case! I'm still trying to convince my lovely wife.. heh. Re: After 8 Years, its time to sell my DeLorean - Chris Williams - 30 Sep 2011 Also it is still a strange time, Lots of people are still worried about the worlds economy and whats going to happen in the short term plus this time of year people dont usually buy cars! Xmas and all that. A good car will allways sell though. Chris Re: After 8 Years, its time to sell my DeLorean - Guinney1971 - 30 Sep 2011 there's a guy that was talking to Phill at Crich (he'd escaped a wedding reception to come and see the cars lol), and he is in the market for a car. Cant remember if he's a club member or not or on this forum, but I know he lives over Swadlincote way. Robin's car could be in his price range, I just hope he sees the advert! Re: After 8 Years, its time to sell my DeLorean - Guinney1971 - 02 Oct 2011 well, the car has sold on the Bay of E... someones got a bargain! I hope your car stays in the Club Robin, and that the lucky new owner gets lots of pleasure from it. Re: After 8 Years, its time to sell my DeLorean - dmcrobin - 04 Oct 2011 Its off to Germany Clare ! But you'll see the number plate flying around on a new D as a club member has bought that separately ! I'm sure i'll be back one day. See you at the NEC |
