Parts, and why we no longer sell them.
Posted by: Chris Williams - 02 Sep 2016, 08:31 - Forum: General Discussions on the DOC / Car / Company / JZD - Replies (11)

I have been asked a good many times why the club no longer sells parts (with a couple of exceptions where these are manufactured by a company) I have attached a pdf of an article from a meeting I attended with the FBHVC recently.
If you read this you will note that the supply of parts to our cars (actually any parts to anything) has become a legal minefield with cases of insurance companies in some circumstances not paying out if your car is involved in an accident where they can prove the failure is due to a non standard or sub standard part having been fitted to your vehicle.  Not only this should you (or passengers) suffer injuries that may need care in the future then you may need to sue the supplier direct (or try to) as again your insurer may decline any claim.
Clearly this has all become a minefield (much more so for the USA) and has prompted some clubs to cease the sale of critical parts to members and the public. My advice would be that any part that you buy and fit to any car would be that you buy from a recognised supplier who is happy to provide you with a copy of the companies Public Liability Insurance and the company name of whom is supplying the parts along with keeping receipts of any parts that are supplied. This way at least should the worse occur you can prove where the parts came from and that they were bought in good faith. This, although posted on a DeLorean forum is not specifically aimed at Deloreans and the supply of parts for them. Though clearly relevant to the DeLorean parts supply as more and more 'new' parts are developed around the world. It's aimed as more of a general car 'thing' Lots of us have multiple classics and also work on our day to day vehicles.
Therefore we will continue to use the cross reference sections of the forum to 'point' you in the direction of where to buy parts and the part that you need. However the suitability of any parts you purchase is your choice and any advise given through this forum is that. Advise only. You must make the decision as to that part from any supplier being suitable for your car. I'm happy to provide any purchaser from the clubs shop with a copy of the DOC's PL Insurance and suggest you do the same from any other supplier of parts.

Thames Valley Sportscars Evening - Tuesday 13th September
Posted by: jasongibson100 - 31 Aug 2016, 22:46 - Forum: South East - No Replies

Thames Valley Porsche have been having themed evenings once a month since spring.
Our final Summer meet is on Tuesday 13th September

Our theme for the September meeting is Pre 2000 Sports cars
Last year we had a great mix of cars, hopefully the weather will be kind again this year

As well as the Porsche models of the era, we are welcoming our friends from:
Ferrari, Lotus, Lamborghini, DeLorean, Maserati, TVR etc etc.

We had a pair of Deloreans come along last year, i'm sorry but i can't remember the names

This is a chance to bring your car along and add to the Poster cars from our younger years :0)

The meeting is held at a nice country pub with very large lit car park.
It's also a great place to grab a bite to eat, including the highly recommended curries from the Indian chefs

The Novello, Bar and Restaurant
Bath Road (A4)
Littlewick Green
Maidenhead
Berkshire
SL6 3RX

We will be there from 18:30 til 22:30 ish

Hope plenty of you can make it and enjoy a great summers evening

Rough running and smells very rich
Posted by: CHUFFINGHECK - 26 Aug 2016, 22:45 - Forum: 1 - Engine - Replies (7)

After an epic fight with the clutch slave cylinder removal (involving a fractured rib in the process), I now miss driving my car.  As it's only the clutch not working I started her up.

This started the extra smell I never had before, a lot of extra smoke,  lumpy running and smelling very rich.  The engine moves about a lot too.

Where should I start looking for a resolution.

Also, tips on clutch slave cylinder replacement...........

  Carfest South 2016
Posted by: Darren C - 15 Aug 2016, 19:08 - Forum: General Discussions on the DOC / Car / Company / JZD - Replies (1)

This is a call to anyone who's available to bring a car along to Carfest South, who might not necessarily read the events section.

We have space on the stand and I'd like to make a good display amongst all the other car clubs at the show.

So if your um-ing or are-ing about going, please let me know. We have space Friday, Saturday & Sunday. You can attend just one or all days. It's a static exhibit so even trailer queens or body off frames accepted [Image: icon_e_wink.gif]
This year the organisers are making it the best show to date, so why not come along and join us for all the fun [Image: dance.gif]

For more details see the Carfest thread in the Events Section, and pm me.

  VIN 16327 Running again....
Posted by: TheOriginalMrP - 10 Aug 2016, 12:05 - Forum: Members Cars - Replies (18)

Hi all.
After neglecting my D a little in the last 3 years, I decided I want to re-live the dream once again.

To car was last tested in October 2013, driven back to my unit, and not turned a wheel since.

However, you may remember I renewed all the fuel tank pickup, return pipe, question mark hose etc shortly after laying it up, so the car has also not had fuel in it until last weekend.

I brought the battery home to charge, and being a 2004 battery, it was well past it's sell by date, and almost split out of the casing... it would not charge at all, and 4-5 volts was the only output I could get.

I also had another battery, which was the smaller Numax some of you have been buying, but I wasn't happy putting that back on either.... that was bought in 2008, and I realised then just how fast the last 8 years have gone.... frightening!

I made a discovery on the Tanya batteries website, and managed to get as close to an 096 as possible, but with side terminals and a 4 year warranty.

Here are some pictures...

This is my old battery, and you can see how it's swollen from storage. The amperage and CCA figures are slightly higher on the old one, but this is as close as I can get, that will fit in the tray.

This is the other old battery, the same as I've noticed a lot of you buying.... however bigger and better is available with side terminals....

Yes it's cheap, but it's not really man enough, and it only has a years warranty...

Get this....

Anyway, after nearly 3 years, a fuel tank components refurbish, and about 2 minutes of short burst cranking, she started... runs perfectly.

And it becomes apparent a new battery is good for these cars, because all the lazy components, IE central door locks, odd bulbs, starter/solenoid etc all work straight away first time.

I've now gotta run it around the industrial estate a few times to get to trust it again, and loosen everything up....

I will take it for a test in a few weeks all being well!

:-)

As I can't edit my last post, I will just note this battery has a handy carrying handle, a charge indicator, and is delivered in less than 48 hours. It comes extremely well packaged.
