  Alternator - Modern Cross Reference
Posted by: Rissy - 07 Sep 2016, 16:36 - Forum: 3 - Electrical - Replies (9)

So i've been doing some further research, including getting in touch with Renault themselves.  The correct Alternator can be sourced from Renault (shipped over from France) but they want over £400 for it!

So I've done some further searching, and found some suitable cross reference numbers.  I've confirmed the original Renault part number is: 77 00 780 774.

This cross references against a ton of other manufacturer's units, but the cheapest i've found is the CEVAM unit, which can currently be picked up via Ebay, shipped from France at the following link.  The CEVAM part number (included for when the link goes down) is "4302".

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191696513399?_...EBIDX%3AIT

Obviously, the pulley on it will not be correct (unless you believe the fact the advert advertises is as coming with a "V belt" pulley, even though it contradicts itself again by specifying 5 ribs), so this will need to be changed.  I don't have the shaft diameter, or the method of keying required for a pulley to fit the unit, but as far as the pulley is concerned, it needs to be a 10mm wide pulley to accommodate the 9.5mm width of the belt (cross reference belt - Gates 7495 used as an example) and a 36 degree wall angle in the "V".  I don't know what is typical for a pulley diameter either i'm afraid.  But does it matter?  I'm not sure.

Perhaps a pulley kit for an old Lucas alternator like the below link, will fit?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LUCAS-FAN-AND-...Swp5JWXtfV

Ultimately, it requires someone to have faith and to buy one and let us all know how they get on with fitting it.  I'd do it myself, but i'm a bit hard up right now, and don't actually need a new alternator right now.  If anyone "goes for it", then please....give some feedback and let us know.  I've done the hard bit narrowing it down this far.  Wink

  Windsor Castle …..today
Posted by: Chris P - 04 Sep 2016, 08:01 - Forum: South East - No Replies

Hi All,

Just a quick mention there are two DeLorean at Windsor Castle today as part of the Queens Birthday celebrations and a HUGE Concourse event.

Pilot 20 is among the 'Best of British" group and a nice Grey Auto is in from of the "Bridge of Weir" stand.

You will probably never see a more important of expensive collection of cars gather together again.

I think its a about a tenner to get in…lots of parking on the long walk.

  Full Throttle Microswitch
Posted by: TheOriginalMrP - 03 Sep 2016, 12:25 - Forum: 3 - Electrical - Replies (1)

Hi guys...

Maybe in simple terms, what does this do? I knew there was a microswitch which clicks OK between when the spool is at rest and opened, but only just discovered the little switch that is supposed to close on full throttle.

A poor adjustment is preventing it clicking when throttle is full, yet you can operate it manually and it clicks like a assume it should...

So once again, what is its purpose and what sort of symptoms shall I be getting without it working?

I never floor the car to that extent anyway, just curious to its purpose.

Thanks

B is For Build - Lotus Evora
Posted by: Nick H - 03 Sep 2016, 10:33 - Forum: Off topic talk, general chat etc - Replies (2)

Hi All,
I have been following the rebuilding of a crashed Lotus Evora on YouTube
channel B is for Build. He is based in Portland in the USA.
Chris the lad who is rebuilding the car is making good progress.
It's a amazing transformation so far from the wreak he started with.

However in his latest video Chris revealed he has been scammed regarding
a new roof skin and windscreen. Both these items are apparently unavailable
from Lotus.

I know we had a few Lotus contacts in the Club. If anyone can help with those
two components contact Chris.

  VIN 16327 2006 & 2016
Posted by: TheOriginalMrP - 02 Sep 2016, 22:17 - Forum: Members Cars - Replies (5)

Hi Folks....

This is weird, and a bit scary.....

As mentioned on a previous post, I now have VIN 16327 back on the road, and today I had my first chance to take my adopted son out for a bit of a ride around.

I promised some of the boys at work I would show them the car, as i've now been working there 18 months, so I took a few pictures around the Celtic Manor Resort while I was there.

The idea was to give the car a bit of a run with that injector cleaner I had put in the tank... I have also changed the check valve on the fuel pump to maybe resolve my new hot start issue..... that's a different matter.  Car is running better, but not 100% cured. Maybe a longer run?

Anyway, after doing the pictures, on my way home I decided to park the car in a place where I did in my first weekend of ownership some 10 years ago.....

And it wasn't until I got home, uploaded the pictures, and put them together.....

2006......

And 2016....

Ok, The number plates are different, as BLM2Y used to be FLE 371Y, and was for about 1 month of my ownership.

Then I noticed the time on the clocks.....

I have to say, hand on heart, I never purposely went there about the same time just to take this picture at the same time as the first...
My initial thought was that maybe the clock has been broken and stuck for some years.... (That's ironic in itself!)

However, I checked the time the image was taken, and it appears it was the correct time.....

I understand many of you may think "yeah yeah"...... But seriously, I can solemnly swear that I had to look twice myself!

Anyway, enjoy the other images!

  Rear bumper stainless letters
Posted by: CHUFFINGHECK - 02 Sep 2016, 15:54 - Forum: 8 - Frame / Body / Interior - Replies (5)

Good afternoon,

As the car is off the road due to the clutch hydraulics, I'm looking around her for other jobs to sort.

Anyway, the stainless letters have been removed form the logo in the back bumper because one fell off whilst cleaning.  This is leading to my question.

I have a friend who runs his own business cutting shapes from sheet material (plastics and the like, not metal) and I have asked him to cut me some shaped double sided adhesive backing for the aforementioned Delorean stainless letters from the back bumper.  To do so, he needs either a dxf file or scaled pdf file of the letters!!

Can anyone help me?  I have looked online but can't find anything.

If we can get the right material, he could make them available for purchase!!!!!!!!

Would anyone be interested in buying them?

Thanks.

  New Rear Brake Calipers
Posted by: Chris Williams - 02 Sep 2016, 08:53 - Forum: 6 - Brakes / Wheels / Tyres - No Replies

I noticed this article in a recent edition of Practical Classics and whilst I cant say these are a definite fit I'm sure they would be worth a try: http://www.sngbarratt.com/ProductDetails...01a6d478c5 They may have the smaller pistons (or may not) so you would need to check this out and make sure they are the right items, but at £280 for a set of two new calipers they may provide a good option as the supply of our old ones dries-up!
