  New Purchase
Posted by: TheOriginalMrP - 24 Jan 2017, 16:11 - Forum: Off topic talk, general chat etc - Replies (7)

Hi All... and happy new year... A little late I know...

I know many of you are not into Motorbikes, except with the exception of Dan Willis.....

But I thought i'd share with you my new purchase, due for collection on 1st March when the 17 plates are issued.

This is a Kawasaki ZZR Performance Sport..

Specs as follows...

1441CC
0-60 in 2.5 seconds
Factory restricted, but without this limiter, it can exceed 200MPH
It is still the worlds fastest production bike, since taking the title from the Suzuki Hayabusa in 2012
ABS, Traction and Launch control.. if you are brave enough.
Akropovic Silencers.
Brembo Brakes
Ohlins Adjustable Shock on rear.
Wind cheating double bubble screen....
Hopefully, the plate will read MY17 ZZR .... im awaiting conformation of this.

Needless to say, i will be taking my time on this for the first few trips.... For anyone interested, check out the videos on youtube!

  Stalling? Tuning? - Help
Posted by: GDTDMC12 - 21 Jan 2017, 19:30 - Forum: 1 - Engine - Replies (3)

Unsure if this topics should reside in Engine or Fuel categories.

Since taking possession of 16606 I've known that the tuning will need "fine-tuning". This said I've been having the following issues that may or may not relate to this. If anyone can advise, from the following explanation, what the cause and possible solution is I would be very grateful.

So when driving along there is the hum/rumble of the engine but then periodically the engine produces this choking noise and the car vibrates/jerks with the noise. In my mind it feels as though the engine is gasping for fuel (but this is an interpretation from my non-mechanical/technical mind). It is naturally most prominent when accelerating, and then when taking the foot off the gas/coasting it then splutters some more.  On the drive home today on the M1 there were moments when the rumble of the engine, which does seem to be exceptionally loud, suddenly quietens to a much more harmonious hum and acceleration picks up markedly.

As well as the above symptoms, today for the first time the car kept stalling on me. After a while I noticed that when approaching a roundabout (Yes I was in Milton Keynes - self-professed home of the roundabout), or junction at speed and coming to a halt often the car would stall and I would have to turn the ignition again, often while still in motion. At one roundabout the ignition would not start the car and I had to roll over to the curb/side of the roundabout and after 2 minutes of trying it finally started again. When I was able to slow down and change down through the gears slowly the stall did not happen, or it tried to stall but application of revs kicked it back to life. Naturally for the remainder of my journey, including my return to London I tried my best to slow down gently.

The car was idle in a back yard in Ohio for 25 years and has come back to life only since Christmas. If not tuning or mixture leaning issues then I was wondering if it could be to do with the RPM Fuel Pump Relay (part #101064). It is still running on its original although I do have a new one just in case the original does become problematic. However I'm not entirely certain how to diagnose if the relay need replacing - this could be it (?).

So this is the information I have, I hope I've described the problem(s) well enough.  Any help anyone is able to provide, offer, suggest will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

  Silverstone Classic 2017 28/29/30 July
Posted by: Ryno - 14 Jan 2017, 13:25 - Forum: DOC National Events, Car shows, AGM's and others - No Replies

I am wondering if anyone is attending the silverstone classic this year? or if the club has looked into entering the event? registration is free for 2017 and there are benefits for the club.

Allocated club display area on the infield of the circuit, including space for club marquee and license to sell club merchandise
Dedicated booking code for all our members giving us access to the Car Club Display Package - fantastic deals that include 2 x Adult Event Tickets and an infield vehicle display pass
Potential invitation for a track parade if our club has a special anniversary
10% discount on group bookings of Clubhouse Hospitality
Official Silverstone Classic signage displaying our club name (for clubs bringing 10 cars or more)
Name and short descriptive entry the club in the event programme
Club link on the Silverstone Classic website

We wouldn't necessarily need a stand just a few cars on display would be good.

Is anyone available with a stock Delorean around this location? It's for a BTTF party for their son. A Time Machine is out of their budget. Feel free to pm me if you're interested and want to discuss further. First come first serve Wink

Deciphering the scribbles on my doors
Posted by: GDTDMC12 - 05 Jan 2017, 21:22 - Forum: Members Cars - Replies (3)

Hi,

I recently read about what some of the markings found written on the doors. I learned about the Key Code, VIN and born on date. The following are photos of my doors,

Drivers Side Door:

Passenger Side Door:

As can be seen, the VIN given is 11606 which was re-assigned to 16606. Does anyone know any specific details as to when the re-assignment to the 16xxx range would have taken place.

The Born on date, as I read it to be known as, is 15th January 1982. I don't know what the symbol/initial followed by the 11.00 means. I thought the symbol could be a "B" from some angles for Born, or the mark could be an "@". Does anyone know if the "11.00" would be the time of completion/engine start up or similar? Alternatively if anyone knows the true definition of "born on date" or what this date and apparent time actually means I would be interested to know. I imagine therefore that my car would have sat around at the Dunmurry factory for some time before being shipped to the USA and having had it's new VIN plate added which states the manufacture date at Aug 1982.

Also there are other markings in these photos. If anyone is able to shed any light on what they could mean I would love to know as I build a picture of the history of my D.

Any help, information and opinion anyone is able to provide will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

  Mot'ing a DMC 12
Posted by: SpudMurphy - 16 Dec 2016, 10:25 - Forum: General Discussions on the DOC / Car / Company / JZD - Replies (2)

Hi. I tried searching for this but to no avail.

still, as a newbie, it's a chance for me to become known around these parts.

So my question is, what changes have to be made to the Delorean to get it through MOT requirements please?

Cheers
